Induction Training Synopsis (3 Full Days)
Course Goal
The Induction Training aims to introduce new care staff to the fundamental principles of working in the care sector. It covers a broad range of essential topics, providing the knowledge and skills necessary for effective caregiving and personal development. Key areas include safeguarding, duty of care, health and safety, person-centred care, personal development, the carer’s role, equality and diversity, communication, privacy and dignity, fluids and nutrition, awareness of mental health, dementia and learning disabilities, basic life support, safe handling of medication, the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, handling information, and infection prevention and control. This comprehensive training equips new carers with the foundational information they need to start their careers and develop their professional portfolios.

Awareness of Mental Health, Dementia, and Learning Difficulties:
- Understand the needs and experiences of individuals with these conditions.
- Explain how these conditions affect the care requirements of individuals.

Equality and Diversity in the Care Sector:
- Define equality, diversity, inclusion, and discrimination.
- Discuss the importance of equality and diversity.
- Identify and mitigate workplace discrimination.
- Review relevant legislation.
- Access and utilize resources related to equality and diversity.
- Interpret the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England.

Health, Safety, Life Support, and Infection Prevention and Control:
- Clarify personal responsibilities related to health and safety.
- Assess health and safety risks in the workplace.
- Report identified health and safety risks.
- Follow safe practices for medication handling and healthcare tasks.
- Dispose of hazardous substances safely.
- Understand and demonstrate basic life support practices.
- Implement person-centred values in daily work.
- Emphasize the importance of individualized care plans.
- Recognize infection pathways and practice effective hand hygiene.
- Use personal protective equipment correctly.
- Handle infected or soiled materials safely.

Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards:
- Explain the Mental Capacity Act and its key principles.
- Describe the Act’s impact on caregiving roles.
- Record and report in compliance with the Act.
- Make best interest decisions for individuals.
- Differentiate between the Mental Capacity Act and the Mental Health Act.
- Understand Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and their authorization process.
- Recognize human rights as outlined in the Human Rights Act.

- Apply person-centred values in daily care routines.

Course Format:
